Welcome back, Huskies! I trust everyone had a restful and rejuvenating summer break! I certainly did, but I am excited to be back. We have some amazing plans for our students that we can't wait to share with you! Let me begin by welcoming our newest instructional team member, Mr. Louis Allen! Mr. Allen is already making a positive impression on our students as the new director of our Vocal Ensemble & Orchestra, two ensembles we are thrilled to return to NHHS. This is his fifth year in LAUSD, and he is delighted to be on our team here at NHHS. Mr. Allen is an excellent teacher and an extraordinary musician who has performed everywhere, including Disney Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. He has shared the stage with countless artists, including Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Jason Alexander, Wayne Shorter, Quincy Jones, Yo-Yo Ma, Zubin Mehta, and even our most famed alum, John Williams. Mr. Allen has a Master's Degree in Music from USC and a Bachelor's from CSUN. We are so happy he is at NHHS and is sure to make this an exceptional year for our music department!
Our First Football Game & Drill Day!
The marching band had a great time at Band Camp and is looking forward to performing at their first football game, this Friday, August 23. Parents are invited to attend the pregame, which usually starts at 6:45 pm. There will be a "Parent Hang" after the game in the music room while students change out of uniform. This will be a good opportunity to ask questions about the schedule and the paperwork that was sent home last week. Color Guard packets will be distributed this week. The following day, on Saturday, August 24, we'll have our first Drill Day. Students must arrive on time to take advantage of the cool early morning weather. Please bring water bottles, sunscreen, and a hat. Parents are welcome to come after practice on Saturday to ask any questions if needed.
